What to do...what to do...
Well, I've mentioned before that Allan is one heck of a teacher. A serious talent this man has. I've benefited from his talent so many times and I know I will continue to as time goes on. We decided to utilize his skills and have him teach me what we're reading instead of just going through the motions.
Here is Scripture 101 starring Allan Anderson. Tonight: Jacob Chapter 5 [The Olive Tree].
[disclaimer: allan says olive trees look nothing like this in real life]
The reason Allan is such an amazing teacher is because he starts at the beginning and makes everything easy to understand. In this case, he gave the background of olive trees [how does he know this stuff?], went over the timeline of the chapter, explained the sybolism, etc.
It's more time consuming but so much more rewarding. I learned so much more and I'm looking forward to finishing chapter five tomorrow. I love this man so much. What are some things you do to get yourself out of a scripture study rut?

I love this, and I find it so interesting that you posted about scipture study because I have been feeling the same "rut" that you guys have. I finally had enough of the "read right before bed and try not to fall asleep" so I prayed for the strength to get up 15 minutes early! I know, gasp--that's precious time to me. Funny thing is, I have yet to set an alarm for 5:45 (I set it for 6, my regular time) and have woken up at the same time (5:45) every morning since I started praying. I really do think that Heavenly Father is waking me up for my studies. It's amazing :)
ReplyDeleteLove you guys!
