"Marriage is a relationship where one person is always right, and the other is a husband." Saw this quote on someone's facebook and it made me chuckle...

my son, the stomach sleeper.

(DISCLAIMER: I know all pillows/blankets/other items should always be removed from a baby’s sleeping area - ESPECIALLY stomach sleepers - but I was right there the whole time so Holden was in no danger.)
Holden will be seven weeks on Tuesday. He has had some issues with sleeping on his own the last few weeks and I’ve been trying to find a solution. He will be fine for a few minutes when I lay him down but he startles himself awake and then realizes he’s no longer being held and will not go back to sleep. Holden the cat napper. Frustrating!
All I’ve ever read about babies sleeping on their stomachs is how bad it is. It’s linked to SIDS. Scary! As a new mom, I have enough to worry about. I started reading some blogs and real life experiences of moms dealing with the same thing and they all said the same thing - not as worrisome as everyone thinks. Now, I’m not saying it’s not nerve-racking still. It is. But I’m dealing with it.
How, you ask? Well, I don’t sleep as well. I wake up quite often to check on him. I’d rather suffer a little and Holden sleep better. During the day, I check on him every 10-15 minutes and during the night he sleeps right next to me so I can check on him. I can rest a little easier because Holden is so strong. He has been able to hold his head up from day one (literally) and has no problems moving it from side to side.
Let me know if any moms out there are/have dealt with the same thing and can offer any advice!

the meaning behind...

(This was written and posted originally on August 25, 2010)

So in case you were wondering what LWPH stands for, look to the title of my blog. My silly husband, Allan, likes to call me “Little Wife Power House.” I’m not quite sure when it started or where exactly it came from. He used to just call me "The Little Wife"…well, because I’m small. 5’2” and my weight - let’s just say my BMI is healthy :) - a woman never tells her weight!
Then the power house came…you’d have to ask Allan exactly why but as far as I know it’s because of the “sassy” aspect of my personality. If you know me, you know I’m blunt - definitely not one to shy away from speaking my mind (I know, lucky Allan!) As Allan would say, “She’ll little wife power house kick you in the face!” We’re weird but I wouldn’t have it any other way. :)
There it is.

first blog...

(This was written and posted originally on August 24, 2010)

My blog was on tumblr.com but I wasn't getting everything I wanted out of it so I moved here. I wanted people to be able to leave me comments! Tumblr.com is more of a "mini-blog" site. It's great - just not exactly what I was looking for. So...here it goes!

My sister, Lori, inspired me to start this..Allan (my husband) set my tumblr account up for a me over a month ago but having a newborn doesn’t leave you too much time to blog so I'm just now getting around to it!
This is more for my benefit than anything. I’m hoping it will hold me accountable to jotting down Holden’s daily accomplishments. It’s really interesting, being a mom. Interesting, fun, challenging, rewarding, etc etc. His newest thing is smiling at me. It seems like a really small thing but the first time he smiled AT me (not just at the space surrounding my head) was amazing! It made me think…”He knows I’m his mom!” Whether that’s true or not…who knows…but it sure made me feel good!
With all of the amazing things Holden does every day there’s also the…less amazing things :) For example, let’s go back to two days ago. 7:00 AM comes around and Holden is a hungry boy. So I respond accordingly. While nursing him, he does a major poop! Moms out there - you’ll understand my first response - “Go Holden!!” Then I felt it…running down my stomach, then leg…YUCK! Oh man, decontamination began! I quickly yell at Allan to grab the little guy so I can jump in the shower and scald my body with hot water/soap/bleach (JK on the bleach part). “No one ever said being a mom is a glamorous job.” Ain’t that the truth.
Well guys, motherhood is calling my name (aka Holden is crying) so I gotta jet. Talk soon!
